Brick Walls

Well we wouldn't be bricklayers if we didn't build block walls but our skill lies in the fact that we build all kinds of barriers for all kinds of needs. That can mean freestanding external barriers, or load baring internal structural walls and features. It can be simple solid walling or (more popular these days) we can build cavity walls to allow for better moisture resistance, strength, or insulation depending on just how the cavity is then filled. We also do a huge range of veneer walls where the brickwork itself is decorative and effectively a cladding for steel studs and concrete that provide the structural strength meaning that the look can be absolutely any way you like.

Retaining Walls

Holding back the forces of nature is no small job and so we build our retaining walls to be tough.  Any partition that is holding back a slope is a retaining wall, including your basement walls and the forces at play are considerable when there are literally tons of soil pushing back at that partition. So we use techniques like cantilevered walling and hidden buttresses and anchors to ensure our masonry can take those forces and shrug them – plus look great on their exposed faces.

Brick Fireplaces

A brick fireplace is the perfect focus for you home and is bound to have your friends and family gathering round. We can build fireplaces even where there is no existing chimney or we can expand small fireplaces into magnificent and welcoming hearths. Equally if the style of the home is being changed we can take larger and more clumsy brick fireplaces and shrink them down into sleek, petite, but perfectly formed modern brick masterpieces.

Chimneys

Chimneys have it tough because not only are they immediately in the line of fire of hot ash and air but they are also stuck out there in the teeth of wind, rain, and sun – all of which we have plenty of in Tempe, AZ. Plus just to cap it all off they are largely out of sight and not easy to inspect. We take care of chimneys with repair, resurfacing, recapping, repointing, and coating to ensure that they have years more faithful service left in them.

Hardscaping

Totally transform your exterior spaces with hardscapes that look great, extend your living area, and provide a practical solution to tricky erosion and water run off issues. We can pave perfect patios, create brick and stone pathways to guide visitors around your property, or brick drives to be the envy of your neighbors. Plus our fire pits and barbecues will make your outdoors a party place all year round.

Masonry Repair

Bricks and stone are legendarily tough but if they are in the front line against the Arizona elements they run the risk of crumbling and chipping. Mortar is much less resistant and while your brickwork can be good for a hundred years your mortar and pointing will need reworking long before that. Whatever your masonry problems we can repair it. Repointing, replacing, or refurbishing; we can make absolutely all your masonry look like the day it was first laid and we can do so while matching it perfectly to original surrounding masonry.
“Masonry Creations Tempe were the key to the successful remodeling of our grounds. Recommended by the landscape gardener we were working with they changed the shape of our space with retaining walls, a network of paths, and a connected patio that all looked perfectly like aged brick and matched up with the original features of our period house. Great combination of solid skills and imagination.” - Samantha T.
“Our fireplace was looking a bit sad – turned out that the bricks and mortar used to build it were not the best choice and had degraded with heating and cooling which is a problem in a fireplace. Masonry Creations Tempe took care of that and seriously you wouldn't know that our new brickwork wasn't the original.” - David P.
“Masonry Creations Tempe had all the answers for our yard wall that was literally falling slowly into the street. They didn't just deal with the wall they sorted out a foundation for it so that it would stay straight and strong. ” -  John L.

Block Fences

Have you been thinking about building a block fence around your property? If so, you are in the right place. If you decide to make a concrete block fence, you will be advantaged because it has several uses apart from security. These uses are:
  • It can provide sound insulation services
  • Offers wind protection
  • Has ornamental benefits
  • Can also be used as a privacy wall
Apart from the above advantages, it is essential to know that concrete blocks are durable, economical and flexible. This means that a wall built of concrete can take any shape and design as per your blueprint. Before you search for “block wall contractors near me”, it is crucial to know how to vet a masonry company.
  • In House Estimates: If you call a contractor and they give you a quote over the phone; you need to be careful when dealing with them. A reputable company should come to the site, inspect it the lay of land, take the required measurements, look for obstructions, and then prepare a quote.
  • Look at Previous Projects Done: Ask the company to show you one or two previous projects done so you can gauge their quality and craftsmanship.
  • Should Provide a Comprehensive Quote: Since a block fence wall contractor will come and inspect the site. He should provide a comprehensive quote that includes labor, transportation, and material cost.
  • Consider Years of Experience: A company with years of experience building block fences is better than a company that just joined the masonry business. Experienced contractors can quickly identify faults in the design and save you from costly repairs in the future.

Difference Between a Cinder Block Fence and Concrete Fence
Most masons use the word cinder blocks and concrete blocks interchangeably in the sense that you might believe they are the same thing. This is, however, not the case. Concrete blocks are made from cement and aggregates such as sand.

On the other hand, a cinder block can be made from several aggregates rather than sand. It can be burnt coal or industrial waste. Since they are all different, they also have their advantages and disadvantages.

Block Fence Cost

If you are installing a basic cinder block fence, you should expect to be charged around $6 per square foot. Add another $8 for labor costs and the final cost of a simple brick fence can rise to $570. If you are building a cinder block wall, expect the cost to be $10 -15 per square foot. These are fairly generic costs and the prices vary on many different factors.

Some cost factors would include but are not limited to; the price of local labor, the amount of excavation required, removal of trees, transportation cost, and soil type in your area. Some grounds are less stable, which means that more steel and concrete will be required to stabilize the foundation. Also, we will need to know your land's size to provide you with a comprehensive quote.

Block Wall Installation

Masonry Creations Tempe adheres to the best international standards when installing a block wall. We are always looking at functionality and how to add aesthetic beauty to your home. Unlike some unqualified contractors, we will make certain that your privacy fence has a solid foundation.  We ensure that the footing is at least twice a single block's width and is below the freezing line. Our walls are well plumbed and leveled, reducing the chances of them cracking in the future.

Block Wall Repair

There are several types of block wall repairs that we do. The most common type of repair is removing stains that have built up over time. These stains remove the wall's aesthetic beauty, and if not removed soon, the partition becomes unsightly.

Depending on the type of stain, we can either use an organic acid or sandblasting technique to remove the stain. Another common block wall repair is fixing shrinkage cracks. These cracks occur when the barrier has been plastered. It is identified by tapping on the affected surface where it is supposed to produce a hollow sound. Other types of repair are:

  • Repointing: Used to make the block fence waterproof.
  • Tuckpointing: This is the installation of new mortar to make your block fence more appealing.

The cost of repairs is determined by several factors. One of these is the type of repair that needs to be done. For example, a minor crack will cost less than a major repair, such as raising a sinking wall or repairing the entire thing altogether. Another factor affecting a block fence repair is the amount of excavation required.

Stone Masonry

A stone mason works with an array of materials, including concrete, brick, and stone, for installing chimneys, patios, homes, and retaining walls. This broad level of ability provides many benefits for homeowners and property owners. Even simple features can help to improve any space, such as a path for curb appeal or even a stone veneer accent wall as an interior feature. With stone masonry, handled by a professional stone masonry contractor, you can get the quality, beautiful features you want and need on your property.

Stoneworkers can handle both manufactured and natural stone, as well as veneer products to create all types of different looks and styles. This includes things like home facades, walls both inside and outside, and flooring.

You can have custom stonework services that ensure you get the desired results, regardless of what you want or what you are looking for. Even stone veneer options are available, which makes this a popular option for all styles of homes and architecture. If you are interested in this look for your home, you will find that stone is a smart option and one that will withstand the test of time.

Masonry Mailboxes

Did you know that your mailbox is a part of your home’s curb appeal? What is yours saying about your home? For example, if you still have the standard, cheap, plastic mailbox, there is a good chance you are not giving off the impression you would really like to.

So, what’s the solution?

The answer is to invest in masonry mailboxes. Made out of stone, brick, or concrete, these mailboxes offer architectural appeal and a sturdiness that other materials cannot compete with.

When you decide to have a masonry mailbox installed, you can have it customized to your needs, specifications, and budget. Some of the factors you can decide on and dictate include:
  • Mailbox size
  • Mailbox style
  • Types of material used for the design of the mailbox
Thanks to the many options that are available, you are likely going to find a mailbox style that suits your needs and preferences, regardless of what they are, or what you are searching for. You can also call a stone mason to help with stucco mailbox or brick mailbox installation, along with mailbox repair services. Keep this in mind, as it will help you see why this style of mailbox may be the best option for you.

Chimney Repair

The stability and soundness of a brick chimney is important. Along with the usual damage to the brick and mortar due to age, the elements and wear, these structures can suffer additional damage. Because of their height, it's common for chimneys to lean and separate from the house due to footing problems. This issue arises when the footing is too small to support the chimney or when there's loose soil underneath the footing. House settling can also cause chimneys to lean. This movement may also cause damage to the bricks and mortar, which requires a chimney restoration.
